Summer Camp 2019 for Cello, Piano, Viola & Violin
10th - 13th January 2019
Information for Summer Camp
We will be holding the Suzuki Summer Camp at Totara Springs in Matamata again this year.
Totara Springs Christian Centre is situated in a beautiful setting, nestled at the foot of the Kaimai mountain ranges in Matamata. There are 90 acres of park-like grounds and native bush with streams, walks and bush trails. They have a large indoor sport and activity centre, as well as a large hot pool fed by natural hot springs. The Suzuki Summer Camp is fully catered by the resident catering team and special dietary needs can be accommodated. A wide range of outdoor activities are on offer as well.
The Camp is a great environment for learning, sharing and music enrichment with fun classes, concert evenings, and a Twinkle Parade for our youngest performers.
This year we are having camp t-shirts made. Please refer to the camp information page (link above) for sizing. Click on the image to enlarge.

Fees must be paid at the time of enrolment. This is in addition to the tuition fee for all those not staying on site – students, family, siblings and other visitors.
Camp Arrival and Departure
Registration will be between 10-11am on the first day of camp. Camp concludes at 4pm on the last day after the Play-out Concert.
Please ensure that children are adequately supervised at all times. All students must be accompanied by an adult/guardian staying on site, who is responsible for them 24 hours/day.
A small duty roster is a requirement of Totara Springs Christian Centre which relies on shared help in order to provide its current pricing schedule. Notification of duties will be given out at the Camp registration desk and these will also be posted at Camp on the information board.
Participation in the Totara Springs Suzuki Summer Camp is undertaken at your own risk. The Camp organisers will not be liable for any damages resulting from, or in any way connected to the Camp. Please note that Totara Springs Christian Centre is alcohol-free.
We are offering graded programs at Suzuki ECE (Early Childhood Education), Junior or Standard levels.
Suzuki ECE – Daily Suzuki ECE class for children aged 0-4 years that are not playing an instrument yet
All students are expected to give a solo performance. Solo performances are considered an integral part of the programme as it provides an opportunity to perform and build confidence whilst learning concert etiquette.
The advanced program is for students at book 8 level and above. Students wishing to enrol in the advanced student programme need to indicate this in the comments section of the online enrolment form.
Advanced Student Concert
The Advanced Student concert will be made up of students (school age) from the most advanced groups and will be selected from these groups once enrolments have been received. The students will be notified in advance and sent a form to be signed off by their teachers.
Introductory Suzuki Teacher Training for Teenagers – Stage 1
At this camp in 2019 we are likely to offer the above course which is designed to help teenagers approach Suzuki teaching in an organised and informed fashion. The course includes 8 hours of teaching which will include pedagogy (teaching points) and philosophy.
Please contact for further information including requirements for eligibility and price.
Piano students will be charged an additional $20 for their music programme. This $20 is to assist in the payment of hiring and transporting Pianos to the venue.
